Practical Notes Every Embroidery Designer Should Check

Test on scrap first—always. Especially with textured or dark fabric: run a black-on-charcoal mockup and a white-on-navy one. The .JPGs are great for quick printable mockups, but stitch behavior only reveals itself in thread.
Stabilizer choice changes everything. For the crosshatch and sketch styles on knits or towels, I used medium-weight cutaway + light water-soluble topping. Skipping the topping led to slight “puckering” in curved areas.
Hoop size matters more than file format. These icons are scalable vectors—but your machine’s smallest reliable hoop (mine is 4x4") dictates how much detail you can preserve. If you’re stitching under 2", simplify manually before digitizing.
Thread color contrast is non-negotiable. Since all icons are black and white, choose thread that honors both values. Matte black on cream linen reads calm; glossy charcoal on oatmeal feels modern. Avoid neon or metallic unless you’re intentionally subverting the tone.
